Nicola has a studio in Richmond, London and in Nevis,
Caribbean. In London she teaches art, pottery and makes
her own sculpture. In Nevis she creates her collages,
exhibits her pictures and gathers inspiration. The cards
are a new venture which bridge the two worlds.
‘Objets trouvé’ are used in all her creative processes.
In her clay coiled sculptures she uses buttons, wire,
woven fabric, pill packets and glass to decorate her
work. The marks form part of the private language of the
sculpture, informing anyone who looks closely about its
cultural inspiration.
In her art teaching she illustrates how to do frottage
and make alternative painting tools using household
packaging.
The collaged works, including the collecting and sifting
of the plastic and frayed rope along the Atlantic coast
in Nevis commemorate each visit to the Carbbean with her
family.
